A Wet Electrostatic Precipitator, or WESP, is widely used in non-ferrous smelting and steel plants to control fine particulate matter, acid mist, heavy metals, and aerosols. It is especially effective for wet, corrosive, and saturated flue gas streams that are difficult to treat with conventional dry dust collectors.

Typical Smelting Applications
In copper, lead, and zinc smelting, WESPs are commonly installed after wet scrubbing, desulfurization, or acid plant gas cleaning systems. They act as a terminal polishing unit to capture submicron particles, sulfuric acid mist, and heavy metal aerosols such as arsenic, lead, cadmium, and mercury compounds.
WESPs are also used in:
Smelting acid plant gas cleaning
Converter and furnace off-gas treatment
Roasting and refining exhaust gas purification
Workshop acid mist control in electrolysis and leaching areas
Tail gas polishing for ultra-low emission compliance
Key Benefits in Smelting
High removal of submicron pollutants
Efficiently captures PM2.5, acid mist, and metal aerosols that are hard to remove by scrubbers or bag filters.
Strong corrosion and moisture tolerance
Suitable for wet, acidic, and high-humidity flue gas after desulfurization or wet scrubbing.
No secondary dust emission
Water film or spray cleaning avoids the re-entrainment problem caused by mechanical rapping.
Protection of downstream processes
Helps protect acid plant catalysts, fans, heat exchangers, and downstream equipment from fouling and corrosion.
Material flexibility
Collecting electrodes, discharge electrodes, and shells can be designed in stainless steel, duplex steel, FRP, or alloy materials according to gas composition.
Customization for Smelting Projects
Our WESP systems can be configured according to flue gas volume, temperature, moisture, acid mist concentration, heavy metal content, and corrosion conditions. Vertical tubular, honeycomb, or plate-type designs are available depending on space layout and process requirements.
We support OEM, ODM, and project-based cooperation for smelting and metallurgical customers. For technical data, material recommendations, or quotation requests, please share your flue gas parameters and emission targets with our engineering team.
